He startled her as he came around the bend, emerging from the small copse of trees like a wraith emerging from a deep shadow. She stopped walking and stared at him, her heartbeat quickening in fright.
But as he stepped into the light of the street lamp that stood only a few feet behind her, she realized his face was familiar.
"Hayden?" she asked hesitantly, the incredulity and utter shock at his being there evident in her voice.
"Hey, Kisa," he said, a slight smile turning up the corners of his mouth. There was a familiar light in his brown eyes that warmed her heart in the remembering. They had not been close friends; even so, seeing him filled her with a sense of relief. Ever since leaving home, she had been lonely, having not previously known anyone here before she moved. Her world had completely changed in the space of a few short weeks, and now she felt so alone.
In that moment, she realized she didn't care that he hadn't been a very close friend; she was just happy to see an old familiar face.
As if on cue, he took one step closer to her and lifted his arms, holding them out to her. Her eyes widened.
"I heard you needed a hug."
Her shock doubled. "From whom?" Her voice wasn't much more than a whisper.
That light came into his gentle eyes again, the same boyish grin to his lips. "I think you know."
She could only stand there, frozen in astonishment and confusion.
He didn't wait long for her to recover... only a few seconds, really. He finished the remaining steps that separated them and enfolded her in his strong arms. The embrace was warm, gentle, comforting. It brought a strange sense of peace to her soul that, until that moment, she hadn't consciously realized was missing. He was a good head taller than her, so she had to turn her face and rest it against his chest in order to breathe. It felt right, the way her head nestled against his chest just below his collarbone.
He didn't let go for a long time, and just stood there in the uncertain light of the street lamp, holding her. Eventually she softened, relaxing her tensed muscles, and let out a little sigh of surrender. Her arms left her sides and she hugged him back, her fists clutching at his shirt, her face buried deep in his jacket. Later she would wonder why it was so easy to let down her guard with someone she hadn't even known very well, but in that moment she was just immensely grateful for his presence. She breathed deeply and smelled his familiar scent, all her senses now filled with him and the memories of her past.
A single tear shone in the corner of her left eye.
"Thank you," she whispered into the fabric of his jacket. "Thank you, Hayden."
He only smiled, closed his eyes and breathed in the scent of her hair.

Quarantine Quadrupling 7: The Big Fat Finish
He squeezed himself behind the counter, prepared for the day, and fantasized about escape. “What’re you smiling about, Hoggy?” Riley’s scowl filled the order window like a malicious moon. “Just happy to be working another day with you,” he said. She drummed her fingers in annoyance on the steel prep table. “Shirt’s looking tight. You’re gonna have to order a new one, Hoggy. We have a strict policy on employee’s exposing cleavage.” He wrapped his arms across his chest and ground his molars. “That’s one infraction you’ll never be written up for.” The day carried on in what passed for normal in the Artery Attacker. Droving herds of bipedal bovine lumbered in, jostled amongst themselves to squeeze between the metal guide bars for the que, and ordered obscene stockpiles of food. Riley found time to squeeze her quips in between orders, and Henry waited for the precise moment to present itself. It came in the form of a middle-aged woman who looked primed to seek damages

Captive Chase
Ally tried her best to walk through the seemingly abandoned mobile home park. Her hands were handcuffed behind her back and rope pinned her arms above and below her breasts. She was shackled at her ankles with a chain providing very limited movement. A ball gag had been shoved between her lips and a piece of duct tape had been placed over the ball. To add insult to injury, she knew there was a tiny padlock, keeping the gag straps in place. Moments ago when she emerged from an empty mobile home, she saw writing all over the walls. FIND THE WAY OUT BEFORE I CATCH YOU. That made Ally shudder. She had an idea who kidnapped her and forced her into this sick game. The Day Before: Ally arrived at the Antietam battlefield for her traveling website that she worked for. She was a photographer. She went around and took photos of the monuments. She stopped by the statue of Colonel Joseph Clarence Bouchard, the plaque read he died valiantly in battle. As she took photos, a large bald man walked up. He spoke with a southern accent, "you into Confederate monuments?" Ally replied, "Oh, I am taking photos for my job. Personally, I never understood why we have monuments for losers. Even Lee said they shouldn't have monuments. Well, I gotta get going. I need to be in Harper's Ferry soon!" The man watched her leave in anger. Cletus Bouchard did not appreciate her response by the monument of his great great great grandfather. He got into his van and followed the beautiful dark haired brunette to her rental car. He stopped right behind her parked car. She got out to tell him to move his van. Instead, he shoved a chloroform soaked rag over her face and rendered her unconscious. Ally could see an airport through the chain link fence and she mmmphed as loud as she could. But the planes taking off and landing were too loud. She turned back and saw THIS WAY OUT written on a mobile home. Part of her wondered if Cletus had a trap set up or if she really could find the exit from the mobile home park. As she walked by that particular mobile home, she saw Cletus. He wore a sinister mark and a hate group T-shirt. He carried a plastic milk crate, upside down, with a digital camcorder. All Ally could do was keep walking as best she could, only she knew Cletus could easily follow her around now. She could see the exit a block away and she wanted to run so bad but she knew she would trip if she tried. Thats when Cletus spun her around, "did you really think you would escape me? God, you are a beautiful woman. No tattoos. No belly button piercings. Just perfect. Except for that attitude. We gotta change that. Then you can be Mrs. Bouchard!" Ally mmmphed to that thought. "Time to take you to your new home!" As he hoisted the bound brunette over his shoulder and he squeezed his new bridge in bondage hard before carrying her off. All Allg could do was flail her chained legs to no avail and whimper into her gag. He carried her back to the final mobile home and closed the door.
