Literature Text

We'd risk our lives for the hope of saving another
We'd endure the pain for the chance to spare another
We would risk
            Broken hearts,
                          Sacrificed souls,
                                           And lost minds
For the love of our chosen one.

Yet some battle, scream and fight
To earn that small but coveted right
Of living amongst those they love,
Not at the mercy of those they hate.

So often we labor, struggle and fail,
Enduring the storm's vi'lent gale
To hold onto the love we hold so dear,
Only to fall short and watch it all disappear.

We lose it all –
                Broken hearts,
                              Sacrificed souls,
                                               And lost minds.
We despair and cry and lose all hope.

Because love is what we fight for,
Love is what we live for,
Love is what we die for.
I wrote this a few weeks ago, thinking about how ironic we humans really are... tell me what you think!:D

This is beautifully conceptual, and the title is very fitting. You know, you're really good at catching my attention. I picked four poems out of thirty-six this time, and you still made it in. :) Anyways, I love the style, and I'm inclined to agree with what you've written. The number of tragic love stories I've read being what it is. :) This is a superb poem, overall.
